Introduction

What is a Gala node?

Gala Nodes help to secure the Gala Games network. As a node operator, you will receive points in the “Daily Distribution”, and then: NFTs, game items, GALA coins and TownStar coins, added to your treasure chest. This is one of the best ways to support the Gala Games project!

Guide from A to Z

Step 1. Create a Gala account

Go to Gala Games website and click Register. Fill your data.

Follow the instructions on Gala to Finish the Setup of your account.

Create a Transfer Code (this is like a 2nd password).

You should set a wallet, write down the 12 words and add 2FA security.

Step 2. Move GALA and ETH to your account wallet

2.1 Go to the Nodes tab and click Get Node.

2.2 Here you can see how many GALA coins you need to buy your node.

Example: 237,833 GALA

Note: You need to deposit ETH for fees

2.3 Go to your favorite exchange: Coinbase, Binance, Kucoin ($GALAX), OKEX, Gate, Uniswap… and buy the GALA coins (and a few ETH for fees)

2.4 Go to the Gala Inventory tab. Choose a coin you want to deposit: GALA, ETH…

You will see a QR code and your Gala account wallet address. Copy this.

Send to this wallet address your GALA and ETH coins to buy the Gala node.

Step 3. Complete the Purchase of the node license!

So now you have enough funds. Go to the Nodes tab or click here.

Click Buy Node.

When the transaction is finished, you will receive an email.

You can go to your Account > Node Info and Download* the Gala node files for your computer: Windows, Mac, etc. (*Note: This is not needed for VPS).

Step 4. Create a Vultr account

You can run your Gala node on your computer. But if your computer is off, the node stops running, and you are not receiving rewards.

So we rent an online computer aka VPS (Virtual Private Server) that is running 24/7 in order to run our Gala node. Set and forget.

Go to Vultr website and click Sign Up to create a new account.

Step 5. Buy a Vultr VPS (Online Server)

Let’s add a new product, deploy a new server.

Select a new Cloud Compute. Choose any location.

Then grab a Linux Ubuntu 20.04

Select the Server Size, see Gala Node Requirements for more information:

4 GB RAM
2 CPU Cores
60 GB Disk Space

Note: The Gala Soft Node does NOT currently work with IPv6. Do not select IPv6 only server, set IPv6 NOT enabled.
Scroll down and enter Server Hostname and Server Label, anything you like.
At the bottom Click Deploy Now.

You will see a progress bar. Wait until the setup is 100% complete.

You can find later the following VPS important info:

The IP address of your VPS
The username: root
The password (hidden).

Step 6. Install the files and let the node run active

6.1 Download PuTTY for Windows

Install PuTTY . Select Package files (32 or 64-bits).

Note Mac users: Open Terminal (search Spotlight) and type ssh root@x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is your VPS IP address

6.2 Start PuTTY app

Paste the IP address of your VPS.

Under Connection > Data you can write username: root

Click Open.

Now you are connecting directly to your VPS computer!

6.3 Log in to your VPS (with PuTTY or Terminal)

Username is root. Find the password when the VPS was created and copy it.

Note: the password will not be visible while you type it

Note: To paste in PuTTY, click Right Mouse Button then hit Enter

6.4 Install the node following the instructions by Gala Team:

First run this script: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y

Download the node software package. Type in:

wget -O install-headless.sh https://static.gala.games/node/install-headless.sh; sudo bash install-headless.sh

and hit Enter.

Follow the prompts and you should be good to go!

Copy the link (left click) and paste on a browser. Type your Gala Email & Password.

Go back to the console.

If everything is correct, you will see this screen. Select Founder’s Node. Click Save. Then hit Esc to exit.

And Congratulations! Your Gala node is active and already running! 🎉

Step 7. Enjoy the passive income!

Back to your Gala account. Under Node Info.

You can see your node is running online!

Find your daily mined rewards under the Bell icon (notifications). Also under Nodes tab > Points or clicking here to see the Daily Distribution.

Rewards are distributed once per day at about 02:15 UTC time. The distribution is handled by a provably random distribution algorithm.

The current figures as of today December 2, 2021 are:

Price per node: $59 700
Rewards: 280–300 GALA per day per node
290 GALA * $0.60 per GALA = $174 per day

About the Gala Nodes

The price of the nodes is pegged to dollar and increases by $100 for every 100 nodes sold, with the last 100 nodes out of 50,000 “Founder’s Nodes” available being sold for approximately $33,000. These licenses will eventually be converted to NFTs, which would make them able to be traded on the secondary market.

With your node you help support the growth of a decentralized ecosystem based around the ethos of giving gamers freedom and ownership of their own assets. As node owners support the network, they receive GALA and NFTs as a reward for their support.

The Daily Distribution

In the Daily Distribution, GALA and NFTs may be added to your Treasure Chest. The more points you have, the bigger the daily rewards.

There are several ways to earn points in the distribution system:

Personally run a licensed node — 1 point (node must run for at least 6 hours between 00:00 UTC and 23:59 UTC)
Team members run a licensed node — 0.1 point (team goes two levels deep and users must run their nodes for at least 6 hours per day)
A direct referral purchases a node — 10 points ($300!)
